Freshona Pickled Gherkins

65p for a jar of gherkins; 670g net weight, 360g drained weight.

One of the earlier products that was highly recommended was the jarred cornichons from Lidl.  I used to eat Opies Cornichons and Onions the USP being the little drainage system and they taste good! I slowly weaned myself onto Lidl's cornichons and then their plain gherkins.

I like the look of the pickle marinade.  You can see the dill, mustard seeds and diced red peppers. They're imported from Germany and taste very good!  I like them sliced in sandwiches and salads or diced when mixed with tuna as a sandwich spread.  Sometimes, I eat them from the jar.

You can save a bit of money buying the bigger jars but I like something that fits in my fridge.  Best eaten 3 days after opening but it takes me 2 weeks or so in the fridge as it's just me.

One of my store cupboard/fridge staples.

Acropolis Wholemeal Pitta Breads

39p for 6 pittas.  Lidl's own pitta breads, made in UK.  They have a long unopened shelf life (3-4 months).  It says to consume within 24 hours of opening, I just put them in a plastic bag and they're fine.  My preferred way of eating them is to halve widthways and toast.  Release the steam and toast again.  You should end up with 2 or 4 pieces of crispy tasty bread.  So far, I've eaten it with cheese and pickle, peanut butter and with soup.  I'll try with houmous another time.

Vitasia Instant Noodles: Chicken Flavour V2

I used to be black

This is a review based on a product I have already reviewed here.

Still 18p!  Still suitable for vegetarians and vegans and still pretty good!

Vegetarians and Vegans.

The most noticeable difference is that it has had a revamp and now has a bright yellow packet!  This is yellow and not Roast Chicken Crisp Packet orange.  I thought I would do a pimped up version of this convenience food to celebrate the revamp!

Use all the soup powder.  Add some garlic granules and some Maggi Liquid Seasoning to taste.  I served mine with a poached egg, peas and sweetcorn.

Same stuff, different colour.  I personally preferred the black packet; it looked a bit classier to me ;)

New Covent Garden Soup: Carrot and Coriander

Fresh tasting soup.  You can taste the sweetness of the carrots and I just love coriander.  Some finely grated carrots adds to the touch.  99p a carton.

Sweet Potatoes

£0.89 a kg.  I paid £1.19 for 4 sweet potatoes weighing in at 1.334 kg.

Try them baked

New Covent Garden Soup: Plum Tomato and Basil

99p a carton.  Serves 2 as a main or 3 as a starter.  See my first soup post here.

The best tomato soup there is!  Generous chunks of tasty tomatoes and there is no need for dairy to add deliciousness.  This product is dairy-free and vegan.  It is slightly sweet.  The only negative is that this product will stain so be careful!  Not environmentally friendly but it's good to bin it in a bag first (trying to wash the carton will just stain your brush/cloth so don't bother).

I'd happily pay full price for this but since I know it will be on offer, I just wait.

Floralys Tissues

45p for a box of white tissues.  150 x 2-ply.
I compare this product with Tesco Value Tissues.  The only difference is the price.  My brother recommended Tesco Value Tissues at 18p a box.  I normally just use loo roll but they're good for keeping in your car.  The Tesco ones have crept up in price from 18p to 36p to 68p!
